A4AF3 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit for Kia Rio and Accent

This master kit fits the Hyundai/Kia A4AF family (A4AF1, A4AF2 and A4AF3), the four-speed front-wheel-drive automatic behind the small four-cylinder engines. Per the seller, it fits the 2006-2011 Accent 1.6L, 2005-2011 Kia Rio and Rio5 1.6L, 2001-2006 Accent 1.6L, 1999-2003 Accent 1.5L, 1999-2001 Tiburon 2.0L and 1999-2000 Elantra 2.0L.

You get the overhaul set (seals, gaskets, sealing rings and rubber rings), the friction plates and the steel plates, which is everything needed to rebuild the clutch packs and reseal the case and pump.

Most of these units come in with a flare on the 2-3 shift, a slip in third or fourth, or a hard, delayed engagement into drive, often with codes P0731-P0734 for a gear ratio error. Burnt frictions and leaking piston seals are the usual cause. Check the underdrive and overdrive drum bushings for wear while the unit is apart.

Soak the frictions before assembly, set pack clearances with the selective plates, and use the SP-III type fluid these units were filled with from the factory. On some models, the TCM adaptive values need to be reset after the rebuild so the shifts settle in.
