Astro 78100 Goliath XL C-Frame Ball Joint and U-Joint Press

The Astro 78100 Goliath is an XL C-frame press, the frame only, built for the jobs where a standard ball joint press runs out of room. It has roughly three times the throat space of a typical C-frame, a 9.1 inch throat on an 11.9 inch frame, so tall receiving cups and stacked adapters fit without hunting for a shorter combination. It is forged alloy steel, not cast, which matters when a rusted joint has to be broken loose.

It ships with two drive screws. Use the long screw when you are stacked up on a big 4x4 knuckle, and swap to the short screw to keep the overall working length down when clearance around the control arm or frame rail is tight. The foot is notched so you can press out a lower ball joint without first pulling the top grease fitting, which saves a step and a broken zerk on most GM and Ford truck front ends.

The Goliath takes the receiving cups and adapters from a standard ball joint service kit, so pair it with the adapter set you already own. On the U-joint side it has the depth to square up on a driveshaft yoke or a front axle shaft joint on Dana 30 and Dana 44 trucks. Turn it with a breaker bar or ratchet rather than an impact, keep the screw threads greased, and check that the cup is square to the bore before you load it so the part comes out straight.
