Bearing Race & Seal Driver Set, 43-Piece SAE & Metric

This is a 43-piece bearing race and seal driver set: four aluminum handles and 39 dual-sided adapters that thread onto a handle to give you a flat, correctly sized face for driving bearing races, cups, and lip seals into place. The adapters cover SAE sizes from 7/16 inch up to 3-3/16 inch and metric sizes from 12mm to 81mm, so one case handles wheel hubs, axle housings, differentials, and transmission and transfer-case bores.

The reason you reach for a driver set instead of a socket and a punch is squareness. A race or metal-clad seal that goes in cocked will leak or spin in the bore, and a punch walks around the edge and burrs the metal. You pick the adapter that matches the outer diameter of the race or seal, back it with a handle, and drive it straight in with a few taps until it seats flush against the shoulder. The machined aluminum faces transfer the hammer blow without gouging the new part or the housing.

SAE adapters (black) run 3/8x7/16 through 1-3/16x1-5/16 inch; metric adapters (red) run 10-12mm through 81mm, including 39.5, 44.5, 50, 59, 63, 65, 72, and 76mm faces for larger bearing cups and seals. The set weighs about 6.5 pounds and stores in a molded case so the sizes stay sorted. Aluminum is lighter than a steel driver and will not mushroom, but drive it with a dead-blow or ball-peen rather than a sledge and it will outlast a lot of seals.
