Reaches down into a blind bore, grabs the inner race, and slide-hammers a stuck pilot, pocket, or internal bearing straight out when there is no backside to press against.
Some bearings have no back to push on. The pilot bearing in the end of a crank, the pocket bearings in a transfer case or differential, the internal bearings buried in a case bore, they all sit in a blind hole where a normal press or two-jaw puller has nothing to grab. That is the job this kit is built for. You drop the right collet down into the bore, spread it so it locks behind the inner race, and then pull it out from the front, either with the slide hammer or the counterstay puller, without ever touching the backside.
The set gives you ten split collets that cover parts from 1/4 inch up to 2-1/3 inches (6 to 59 mm), so one kit handles the small pilot and needle bearings all the way up to the bigger case bearings. Each collet threads onto a pin bolt that spreads it tight against the race; from there you either rip it with the slide hammer for a stubborn press-fit or, when you want to go gentle on a delicate part, back it out slowly with the counterstay bridge. It also includes three screw adapters and a spare pin bolt so you are not dead in the water if you strip one.
The body and hammer are forged 1045 carbon steel with a galvanized finish to fight rust in a damp shop, and the collets are chromoly so they bite into a jammed bearing without rounding over. Everything drops into a blow-molded case with a pocket for each piece. One tip from the field: you want at least an eighth to a quarter inch of clearance behind the bearing for the collet to seat, and remember you are pulling on the inner race, so plan on replacing the bearing and the seal rather than reusing them. For pilot bearings, transfer case and diff pocket bearings, and internal case bearings, this is the tool that turns a four-day fight with rental parts into an hour on the bench.
