BushingFix TB1Kit Automatic Transmission Shift Cable Bushing Repair Kit with Install Tool

$31.99
Ships from the USA

The little plastic bushing at the end of your shift cable is the part that fails, and when it does the car will not go into gear even though the transmission is fine. This kit replaces just that bushing with a molded upgrade and gives you the install tool to seat it, so you skip the $400 to $600 dealer cable job and fix it yourself in the driveway.

About this product

If your shifter suddenly feels loose and the car will not go into park or reverse, do not panic and do not let a shop quote you a whole shift cable. On most late-model GM, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ford, and Fiat vehicles the actual failure is a dime-sized plastic bushing at the transmission end of the cable. It cracks, the cable end pops off the shift lever, and the linkage goes slack. The transmission is perfectly healthy. The only thing wrong is a worn-out piece of plastic that the automakers do not sell separately, which is why the dealer answer is a $400 to $600 cable assembly plus labor.

This kit fixes the real problem. You get a custom-molded replacement bushing made from a heat-resistant material that holds up better than the factory piece, plus the install tool that presses it into the cable end socket correctly. Clear the old bushing debris out of the socket, seat the new one with the tool, push the cable back onto the shift lever pin, and you are shifting again. Most people finish in the driveway in well under half an hour, and the longest part of the job is usually pulling the air box to reach the cable. It is a patented BushingFix design, backed by a lifetime warranty against defects, and it fits a long list of makes: Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Hummer, Jeep, Lincoln, Ram, and Saab among others.

One tip from people who have done it: make sure every bit of the old broken bushing is cleaned out of the socket before you press the new one in, or it will not seat flush. Do that and the repair holds. Ships from the USA.
