Squeezes the solid input shaft seal rings on a Ford 10R80 back down to bore size so the shaft goes into the drum without shaving a ring.
Two-piece resizing set for the solid (one-piece) input shaft sealing rings on the Ford 10R80 ten-speed automatic. It includes a resizer for the large rings and one for the small rings, so a full shaft can be done with the kit alone. Seal rings and the shaft itself are not included.
Solid rings have to be stretched over the shaft to drop into their grooves, and once they are on they sit oversize. Try to push the shaft into the drum bore in that condition and the ring either shaves, rolls, or hangs on the bore edge. The resizer slides over the installed ring and squeezes it back down to bore diameter; leave it seated a minute or two per ring so the material takes the set. Work from the far end of the shaft back toward you and resize each ring as you go, so a tool passing over an already-sized ring does not stretch it out again.
The 10R80 is the ten-speed behind the 5.0L and 3.5L EcoBoost in the 2017-up F-150, the 2018-up Mustang, Expedition, Navigator and Ranger. A cut or rolled input shaft ring is a cross-leak: it shows up as delayed engagement, low line pressure, flared or harsh shifts, and pressure codes that read like a solenoid problem when the real fault is a ring that never sealed on assembly. Resizing costs a few minutes on the bench and takes that failure off the table.
