Holds a Ford 9-inch third member and rotates it a full 360 degrees on a bench or engine stand so you can set pinion depth and backlash hands-free.
This is the Speedway Motors 9-inch assembly stand (part number 91081005), the fixture you clamp a Ford 9-inch third member into so you can build it without it rolling around the bench. It fits the standard Ford 9-inch center section, the case everyone calls the pumpkin, used under Mustangs, Fairlanes, F-100s, hot rods, and swapped into countless street and race cars.
The head rotates a full 360 degrees and locks with a bolt, so you can spin the case nose-up to seat the pinion, roll it over to drop the carrier in, and turn it sideways to read a dial indicator when you set backlash. That is the whole point: setting pinion depth, preload, and backlash is a two-hand job, and this holds the third member dead still and at the right angle while you work.
It mounts two ways. Bolt the included anchor plate to a bench or toolbox top for a permanent station, or pull the base and slide the 2.5-inch mounting tube into an engine stand collar for a rig you can wheel around and tip. The frame is steel with a zinc-plated finish, weighs about 11 pounds, and measures 17 by 15 by 3 inches. Note the support tube is a lighter-gauge steel than the brackets, so keep it to Ford 9-inch centers and do not use it as a press.
If you are doing a ring and pinion swap, installing a limited-slip or spool, or chasing a gear whine on a 9-inch, this replaces wrestling the case in a vise and makes the setup measurements repeatable.
