Manual Transmission Clutch Kit Honda CR-V 2.4L 24-Spline

Complete manual-transmission clutch kit for the 2002-2006 Honda CR-V 2.4L and the 2003-2009 Honda Element 2.4L. Everything the job needs is in the box: pressure plate, friction disc, release (throwout) bearing, pilot bearing, and a plastic alignment tool. It replaces OE and aftermarket references 08-049, 08-047, HCK1004, MU721181 and 52302401.

Disc specs are 8.86 inch outside diameter, 1.02 inch input shaft bore, 24 splines, six torsion springs - the same geometry as the factory unit, so the disc slides onto the K24 input shaft and the cover bolts to the stock flywheel without machining. The facing is an organic compound, which engages smoothly and stays quiet at idle instead of the grabby take-up you get from a puck or ceramic disc.

This is the kit you reach for when a CR-V or Element starts slipping in third and fourth under throttle, when engine speed flares between shifts, or when the pedal gets high and grabby from a worn-out pressure plate diaphragm. A chirping or howling noise that changes when you press the pedal is the release bearing, and a rattle that goes away with the clutch in usually points at the pilot bearing - both are replaced here, so you are not back under the car in six months for a part that costs eight dollars but a day of labor.

On the bench: pull the transmission, unbolt the pressure plate in a star pattern a couple of turns at a time so the cover does not warp, drive the old pilot bearing out of the crank, and check the flywheel for heat checking or blueing before reusing it - resurface or replace if it is scored. Set the new disc with the alignment tool through the hub and into the pilot bearing, torque the cover bolts in sequence, grease the input shaft splines lightly (too much grease ends up on the friction face), and pull the tool before the transmission goes back up.
