Genuine Honda ATF-Type 3.1 Transmission Fluid, 1 Quart

Genuine Honda ATF-Type 3.1 automatic transmission fluid in a sealed 1-quart bottle. This is Honda's factory fluid for its newer 9-speed and 10-speed automatic transmissions, and it supersedes the earlier ATF-Type 3.0. It is a different fluid from DW-1, so it is not interchangeable with the older planetary automatics that call for DW-1 or Z1.

Type 3.1 is what these later units are calibrated around, including the 9-speed found in vehicles such as the Odyssey, Pilot and Passport and Acura MDX and TLX, and the 10-speed used in the Accord and later Odyssey and Pilot. Always confirm the spec on your fill or check plug, or in the owner's manual, before you fill; Honda's CVT models take HCF-2 instead and are not covered by this fluid.

These transmissions are sealed and filled through a check plug rather than a dipstick, and a drain-and-fill on a 9-speed or 10-speed pulls several quarts, so plan on multiple bottles for a single service. Fluid level is set with the transmission at the specified temperature and topped to the check-plug port with the correct plug torque on reassembly.

Running a substitute or the wrong Honda spec in these gearboxes is a common cause of harsh engagement, gear hunting and lock-up shudder. Using the fluid Honda specifies keeps the clutch friction and shift calibration behaving the way the factory intended and protects an expensive unit.
