Honda Pilot 9-Speed Transmission Park Release Tool

This is the manual park release tool for the ZF-built 9-speed automatic used in the Honda Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline and Odyssey and in the Acura MDX and TLX with the 3.5L V6. It replaces Honda special tool 07AAA-TZ3A100. When the battery is dead, the engine will not run, or the shift-by-wire electronics have failed, there is no electrical way to move the transmission out of Park. The park pawl stays locked, the rear wheels will not turn, and the car has to be dragged or flat-bedded with the drive wheels locked.

The tool slips over the park release shaft on top of the transmission case, next to the shift actuator. You put a 3/8 in. drive ratchet on the square drive, rotate counterclockwise until the P and N marks line up, and drop the spring-loaded detent pin to hold it in Neutral. The wheels then turn freely so the vehicle can be winched onto a flatbed, rolled onto a lift, or pushed out of a bay. Pull the pin and rotate back to return the transmission to Park. Do not start the engine with the tool installed.

Fitment covers Honda Pilot 2016-2022, Passport 2019-2025, Ridgeline 2020-2026, Odyssey 2018-2019, Acura MDX 2016-2020 and Acura TLX 2015-2020, all with the 9-speed automatic. Machined from aluminum with a black anodized finish and a captive stainless detent pin, so it does not gall the release shaft the way a pair of pliers or a homemade socket will. If you tow, do lot work, or have one of these units on the bench, this is the tool that keeps you from tearing up a park pawl to move the car ten feet.
