The Ingersoll Rand 114GCQ is the standard-duty air hammer most drivetrain shops end up reaching for before the transmission ever comes down. It runs a 2-5/8 inch stroke at up to 3,500 blows per minute, which is the short, fast hit you want for shearing rusted exhaust flange bolts, cutting off a seized crossmember bolt that is blocking the pan, and splitting stuck ball joints and tie rod ends during a front-drive transaxle pull.
On the bench it earns its keep driving pins. A tapered punch in the retainer walks out shift-linkage roll pins, servo pins and stuck case dowels that a hand punch and hammer will only mushroom. Hold the chisel tight against the work before you pull the trigger so the tool loads the part instead of bouncing on it, and let the air do the work in short bursts rather than one long pull - that keeps the piston from overrunning and keeps the chisel tip from walking off a pin.
The kit ships with the 114GCQ hammer, a quick-change retainer and a 3-piece chisel set, so you can swap between a cutting edge, a panel tool and a punch without a spring retainer wrestling match.
