Pops a stuck inner CV joint out of a front-wheel-drive transaxle with a 10.5 lb slide hammer instead of prying on the aluminum case.
A 10.5 lb slide hammer and two forked adapters for pulling inner CV joints and half shafts out of front-wheel-drive transaxles. The fork slides behind the inner joint housing and seats against the case, so the pulling force goes through the tool instead of through a pry bar levered on an aluminum transaxle case. That is the failure this set prevents: a chipped case ear or a gouged axle seal bore, both of which turn a two-hour axle job into a case swap or a leak you get back.
The slide bar is 19.5 inches long and the hammer weighs 10.5 lb, roughly double a typical light-duty slide hammer. On a stuck axle the extra travel and mass matter more than anything else in the kit - a short hammer just bounces on a joint that has been seized in the differential side gear for ten years. The fork adapters are internally threaded and screw onto the externally threaded slide bar, so you can swap between the 63mm and the 48mm opening without pulling the hammer apart.
Bench sequence: drop the lower ball joint or knuckle, get the outer joint free, then slide the fork in between the inner joint and the transaxle case. Hold the fork square against the case face and drive the hammer outward in one or two solid strokes. The circlip on the axle stub releases and the joint comes out. The kit also includes a manual puller and two 16mm nuts for jobs where you have room to pull rather than hammer, plus a plastic case to keep the forks together.
The 63mm and 48mm forks cover most common front-drive axle housings. Because it works on the inner joint housing rather than a vehicle-specific bracket, this set is not tied to one transaxle family - it works the same on a GM, Ford, Honda, or Toyota front-drive unit as long as the fork clears the joint.
