JF506E 9-Piece Transmission Shift Solenoid Set with Gasket

This is the full nine-solenoid set for the Jatco JF506E five-speed, the transmission VW and Audi call the 09A. It covers every electrical valve in the valve body in one box: N88, N89, N90, N91, N92 and N93 shift and pressure control solenoids, plus N281, N282 and N283. The pan gasket comes with it, which is the part you always end up needing once the pan is off. OEM references on the set are D98420, D122990, 98301 and 58703X. The solenoids are remanufactured to OE spec, not new castings.

Fitment is the European side of the JF506E family, not the Ford or Mazda variant: VW Golf 2004-2005 1.9 TDI, GTI 2002-2005 1.8T, Jetta 1999-2005 in 1.8L, 1.9 TDI and 2.8L, Jaguar X-Type 2002-2008 2.5L and 3.0L, and Land Rover Freelander 2002-2005 2.5L. The Ford and Mazda JF506E units use a different solenoid layout, so this set will not drop into those. Check the transmission code stamped on the case before you order.

On the bench the job is straightforward but unforgiving of shortcuts. Drain the pan, drop it, pull the filter, then unbolt the valve body and lay it on a clean surface so nothing walks out of a bore. Each solenoid comes off with its retaining bracket and bolt; note where the harness plugs land before you unclip anything, because several connectors look alike and a swapped pair will set codes the moment you start it. Torque the brackets by hand feel, not by impact, and reuse nothing rubber.

The symptoms that send a JF506E here are the classic ones: a hard 1-2 shift, a flare between gears, stuck in third limp mode, or a P0743 / P0748 / P0750-series code that keeps coming back after a fluid service. Once one solenoid winding drifts out of spec the shift pressures go with it, and replacing them one at a time on a transmission with 150,000 miles on it usually just buys you another return visit. Doing the whole set while the valve body is out is the cheaper way through it.
