Presses sealed U-joint bearing caps out of driveshafts and yokes without hammering, sized for 1 to 1-1/4 inch caps on cars, light trucks and ag equipment.
The Lisle 42890 is a pair of C-clamp style U-joint pullers that press the sealed bearing caps out of a driveshaft yoke instead of beating them out. You clamp the tool over the yoke ears, seat one cap in the cup, and turn the forcing screw to walk the opposite cap straight out. Two puller sizes are included to cover the common range of light-duty joints.
On the bench, clamp the driveshaft in a vise and pop the C-clips or snap rings out of the yoke first. Set the puller over the yoke with the bearing cap centered in the cup, run the screw down to push the joint through, then flip the shaft and repeat for the second cap. Because the load goes through the forcing screw and not a hammer, the yoke ears stay straight and the bores keep their alignment.
This is the fix for the yoke you would otherwise ruin with a socket and a hammer. Pounding on the ears spreads the bores, so the new joint sits loose and clunks; pressing them out keeps the yoke true. The 42890 handles 1 inch to 1-1/4 inch bearing caps, which covers most cars, light-duty trucks and ag equipment, including the smaller Spicer-size joints in that cap range. Threads and casting are heat treated for repeat use.
