Hardened steel wedge you drive between a transmission pan and its gasket, then tap from the side to break the pan loose without gouging the sealing face.
The Lisle 50210 is a hardened carbon steel wedge for splitting a stuck pan off its gasket without prying against the sealing surface. It works anywhere there is a gasketed cover: transmission pans, engine oil pans, and rear differential covers. Instead of jamming a screwdriver into the mating flange and rolling the sealing edge, you set the flat blade into the gasket seam and drive it along the joint.
On the bench or under the vehicle, the routine is the same. Back out all the pan bolts, seat the blade into the gasket line at a corner, and tap the side of the tool with a hammer to walk it along the seam. The wedge shears the gasket and RTV bond and lifts the pan straight off, so you keep a clean flange for the new gasket instead of dressing out gouges before reassembly. That matters most on aluminum cases and stamped-steel pans where a dinged sealing surface means a repeat leak.
The blade is hardened carbon steel and the tool ships with a replacement blade. It is a single-purpose separator, not a scraper, so it goes in dull-first against the gasket and does the splitting work a razor and prybar should not be doing.
