Nine External Torx Plus sockets in the sizes late-model GM and Ford fasteners use, so a standard Torx bit does not round off the drive.
External Torx Plus (marked EP) is a different fastener from standard external Torx, and this is the point techs miss: a regular Torx socket drops onto an EP head loosely and rounds it off the first time you lean on it. This is the Lisle 83100 set, nine of the most common External Torx Plus sizes Lisle chose for the fasteners showing up on newer GM and Ford vehicles.
The nine sockets are split across three drives so they index into the fastener straight instead of cocking: the three smallest are 1/4-inch drive, the five mid sizes are 3/8-inch drive, and the largest is 1/2-inch drive. That spread covers everything from small trim and seat bolts up to heavier undercar and driveline hardware where the extra grip of the Torx Plus profile is used.
Applications Lisle calls out include body panel bolts on the aluminum-body Ford trucks and seat mount fasteners on GM trucks, but EP hardware turns up across late-model chassis and driveline work, which is exactly where a full-round set earns its keep. Reach for these any time you see the six-lobe head with the little raised nub between the lobes that a standard star socket cannot seat on. Lifetime warranty from Lisle.
