MPOA Transmission Master Rebuild Kit for Honda Accord

This is the master overhaul kit for the Honda MPOA four-speed automatic and its sister codes, the transaxle Honda ran behind the F22, F23, H22 and C27 through the 1990s. It covers the 1990-1997 Accord 2.2L and 2.7L (CB7 and CD5 chassis), the 1992-2001 Prelude 2.2L and 2.3L, and the 1992-1994 Acura Vigor 2.5L. Codes on the case that this kit is built for: AOYA, MPOA, MPWA, MPXA, PX4B, APXA, A6VA, BOYA, MP1A and MPJA. Read the code stamped on the bellhousing pad before you order, not the model year alone, because Honda changed units mid-run on these cars.

These units die the same way. Second gear goes away first as the second clutch pack cooks, then you get a long flare between first and second, a shudder when the converter tries to lock at light throttle, and finally no forward drive once the frictions are down to the backing plate. Burnt fluid and clutch material packed in the screen is the confirmation. Replacing the clutch packs and every seal in the unit is what actually fixes it. Line pressure fixes and fluid changes only buy time on a pack that is already glazed.

The kit carries the friction clutch plates, mating steels, and the full gasket and seal set for the rebuild. On the bench, soak the frictions in clean ATF for at least half an hour before assembly, set clutch clearance on each pack with a dial indicator before the drum goes back in, and replace the axle and pump seals while the case is apart. Honda MPOA units are sensitive to fluid: refill with Honda ATF DW-1 only. Hard parts, the valve body, the torque converter, and the filter are not in this box, so order the filter with the kit if the old one is loaded with material.
