Bearing Race and Seal Driver Set with Pinion Race Drivers, 25pc

This bundle puts two Orion Motor Tech driver sets on the bench together. The first is a 10-piece bearing race and seal driver set: a knurled driver handle and nine dual-sided aluminum adapters for seating wheel bearing races, axle seals, output shaft seals and hub seals. The second is a 15-piece pinion bearing race driver set with eight dual-sided adapters sized from 2-11/16 in. to 4-1/8 in., a knurled handle, a pneumatic hammer handle and an extra hammer, sized for the pinion races in light truck, van and SUV differentials.

The adapters are aluminum, so they carry the load onto the race or the seal case without marking the bore or the housing the way a steel drift or a socket does. Each adapter is laser-marked with its size, and both sets come in their own molded case so the pieces stay sorted.

On the bench: pick the adapter that matches the outside diameter of the race or seal, not the bore. Thread it onto the handle, set the race square in the housing, and drive it with even blows until it bottoms against the shoulder. The tone of the hit changes when it is fully seated. On pinion races, the pneumatic handle lets you run it with an air hammer for the last few thousandths so the race is fully down before you check pinion depth and preload.

A cocked or partly seated race is what causes a new pinion or wheel bearing to howl, run hot or lose preload a few hundred miles later. Having a correctly sized driver for every race is the cheap way to avoid tearing the job down twice.
