The OTC 4305 is a steel load leveler that hangs between your engine crane hook and the powertrain. Its four chain attachment points hook to the lifting eyes on an engine or transmission, and a crank-adjusted screw shifts the balance point fore and aft while the load is in the air.
When you pull an engine and transmission together, or drop a transmission out the bottom of a front-drive car, the assembly almost never hangs flat on a bare chain. The 4305 lets you dial the tilt in real time so the bellhousing clears the crossmember and the input shaft comes straight off the clutch or torque converter instead of binding. Rated at 1,500 pounds, it handles small-block and big-block V8 combinations as well as any automatic or manual transmission you would lift on a shop crane.
Walking a heavy assembly out on a plain chain is how you gouge a radiator, bend a cooler line, or scar a fresh firewall. Adjusting the angle from the handle instead of re-rigging the chain saves that damage and a lot of back-and-forth. The bar measures 18.7 by 7.7 by 2.6 inches, is all metal, uses a push-pull tilt adjuster, and carries OTC two-year limited warranty.
