Master Brake and Transmission Line Flaring Tool Kit

OTC 6502 is the bench flaring kit for steel and copper-nickel hard line: transmission cooler line, brake line and fuel line. It covers all three flare types a shop actually runs into - 45 degree single, 45 degree double (inverted), and ISO/DIN bubble - so one case handles a GM cooler line splice, a domestic brake line, and a metric bubble-flare line on an import without buying three separate tools.

Range is the reason to own it. Single flare covers 3/16 in through 5/8 in SAE and 4 mm through 14 mm metric. Double flare covers 3/16 in through 1/2 in SAE and 4 mm through 10 mm metric. Bubble flare covers 3/16 in through 1/2 in SAE and 4.75 mm through 10 mm metric. That 3/8 in and 5/16 in capability is what most cheap 3/16-and-1/4-only kits leave out, and 5/16 in and 3/8 in is exactly what factory transmission cooler lines run on GM, Ford and Dodge trucks.

In the box: the flaring bar, the arbor press yoke, the die/adapter set, a tube cutter and a deburring tool, all laid into a hard case with the flare charts printed inside the lid. Working sequence on the bench is cut the line square with the cutter, deburr and lightly chamfer the outside edge, clamp the tube in the bar at the stickout the die sets for you, lube the die, then run the yoke down for the first stage. For a double flare you back the yoke off, pull the die, and press the second stage against the bar to fold the bubble in on itself. Clamp the bar in a vise - it is far easier than trying to hold it by hand.

The job it solves: rusted transmission cooler lines that weep ATF where they run along the frame rail, and rotted brake line. You cut the bad section out, splice in new tube, and the whole repair depends on a flare that seats square in the fitting. A crooked flare off a sloppy tool is what makes that splice weep after a week. Works on steel, copper-nickel, copper, aluminum and brass tubing. It is not intended for stainless line.
