If the disc is off-center when you torque the cover, the transmission input shaft will not enter the pilot bearing and the box hangs up on the splines - this set removes the guesswork.
The kit uses a tapered cone main adapter and a centering shaft with a stack of pilot adapters so it self-centers in the crank or pilot bearing on most domestic and import cars and light trucks. Adapter sizes cover 1.18 in / .984 in, .874 in / .812 in, .787 in / .749 in, .718 in / .668 in, .624 in / .614 in, .590 in / .561 in, 17 mm / 15 mm, and 15.8 mm / 12 mm, so both SAE and metric pilots are handled.
On the bench: pick the adapter that fits the pilot bearing or bushing, run the tool through the clutch disc into the pilot, seat the disc against the flywheel, then torque the pressure plate in a star pattern and pull the tool.
