RE4F03A Transmission Master Rebuild Kit with Frictions and Steels

This is a complete master kit for the Nissan RE4F03A (also tagged RL4F03A), the 4-speed front-wheel-drive automatic behind the small four-cylinder engines. The seller lists fitment for the 2007-2013 Versa, Cube, Latio, Bluebird, Livina and Grand Livina. Check the transmission ID on the case before you order, since some of these nameplates were also built with a CVT.

In the box are 19 friction plates and 20 steel plates plus the full overhaul set: the lip seals, gaskets, sealing rings and rubber rings for the pump, drums, servo and case. That covers every clutch pack in the unit, so you are not mixing new frictions with glazed or heat-blued steels from the old pack.

The usual reason one of these comes apart is slipping on the 2-3 or 3-4 upshift, a flare when it grabs the next gear, or a delayed engagement into drive and reverse with dark, burnt-smelling fluid. Once the clutches are burnt the debris has been through the valve body too, so flush the cooler and clean the valve body while the unit is apart.

On the bench, soak every friction in fresh ATF for at least 30 minutes before stacking the packs, check each pack clearance with a feeler gauge against the factory spec, and lube the new rubber rings and seals with assembly gel. Refill with the Nissan Matic fluid the vehicle calls for.
