Pulls and drives the rear crankshaft seal on 1998-2003 Ford 7.3L Power Stroke trucks square in its bore, with the transmission already out.
The rear crankshaft seal on the 7.3L Power Stroke sits at the very back of the block, behind the flexplate, and it only comes into reach once the transmission is already on the jack. That makes it a job you do exactly once per teardown, and it is the reason a fresh trans job gets blamed for an oil leak that was never the transmission's fault. If you have the truck apart far enough to see the flexplate, replace the seal while it is open.
This is the 7835 remover and installer set for that seal, covering 1998-2003 Ford 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks with the 7.3L diesel. The remover pulls the old seal out of its bore without digging a screwdriver into the crank flange or the aluminum around the seal pocket, which is the usual way a $20 seal turns into a machine shop bill. The installer drives the new seal in square and to a consistent depth. A seal that goes in cocked or too deep will weep within a few thousand miles no matter how good the part was.
The pieces are heavy duty steel with a black finish, sized for the 7.3L seal bore. The same driving and pulling setup is useful on other rear main and transmission seal work where you need a flat, square push rather than a hammer and punch. Kit ships as a single set, seal not included.
