Twelve quarts of Red Line D6 full synthetic ATF, the low-viscosity fluid for Dexron VI, Mercon LV, Toyota WS, Honda DW-1 and ZF LifeGuard 6 and 8 units.
Red Line 30704 D6 is a full synthetic, low-viscosity automatic transmission fluid built to cover the modern low-vis OEM specs in one bottle. It is licensed for Dexron VI and covers Mercon LV and Mercon SP, Toyota WS, Honda DW-1, Mercedes NAG-2 (236.14), and ZF LifeGuard 6, 6+ and 8. That puts it in a GM 6L80 and 6T70, a Ford 6R80 and 6F35, a Toyota U660E or U760E, a Honda 5-speed or 6-speed, and a ZF 6HP or 8HP.
Twelve one-quart bottles is a full-unit quantity, not a top-off. A 6L80 pan drop takes roughly 5 to 6 quarts, a full fill with converter and cooler lines runs 10 to 12, and a ZF 8HP service takes about 9 to 10. If you are doing a drain-and-fill-and-drive fluid exchange on a high-mileage unit, one case covers two passes on most transverse transaxles.
The reason techs reach for D6 on units that have been run hot is thermal stability. Low-viscosity factory fluids thin out and varnish valve bores and clutch plates when a transmission has been towing or sitting in traffic with a marginal cooler. D6 holds viscosity at temperature and evaporates less, which keeps the valve body clean and the line pressure where the TCM expects it. Do not use it in a CVT or in a unit that calls for a friction-modified CVT fluid.
