About this product

Complete clutch and flywheel package for the non-turbo EJ-series Subaru 5-speed. It replaces every wear part behind the bellhousing in one shot: a nodular iron flywheel (23.12 lbs, 124 ring gear teeth), an OEM-spec heavy duty pressure plate, an organic clutch disc measuring 8-7/8 in. by 1 in. on a 24-spline hub, plus the release bearing, pilot bearing, and a plastic alignment tool.

Fitment covers 1998-2017 Subaru Impreza (2.0L and 2.5L non-turbo), 1998-2016 Forester 2.5L non-turbo, 1996-2012 Legacy (2.0L, 2.5L non-turbo, 3.0L six), 2000-2012 Outback (2.5L non-turbo and 3.0L six), 2003-2006 Baja 2.5L non-turbo, 2013-2015 XV Crosstrek 2.0L, 2016-2017 Crosstrek 2.0L, and the 2005 Saab 9-2X 2.5L non-turbo. It is not for turbo EJ255/EJ257 cars or the FA20DIT WRX, which use a different disc and flywheel.

The usual reason one of these gets pulled is a slipping disc after a clutch-riding commute, a chattering pedal from hot spots and heat checking on the flywheel face, or a release bearing that howls with the pedal down. Resurfacing a Subaru flywheel takes material off the friction face and moves the pressure plate seat, so most shops replace the flywheel outright rather than cut it. Since the transmission has to come out either way, the labor is the same whether you change a disc or the whole set.

On the bench: pull the transaxle and separate the bellhousing, unbolt the pressure plate in a criss-cross pattern a turn at a time so the cover does not warp, then lock the crank and remove the flywheel bolts. Clean the crank flange dry, torque the new flywheel bolts in a star pattern, drive in the pilot bearing, hang the disc with the alignment tool and the marked side toward the flywheel, and torque the pressure plate evenly. Pack the release fork pivot and the throwout carrier before the transaxle goes back up.
