Sunex 9804 Rolling Head Pry Bar Set, 6 to 20 Inch, 4-Piece

Four rolling-head pry bars in the sizes that actually get used on a transmission bench: 6 inch, 12 inch, 16 inch, and 20 inch. Each bar has a curved rolling head on one end and a tapered point on the other. The rolling head is what you want when you are separating a case half, breaking a pan loose from a stuck gasket, or walking a bellhousing off the block dowels without gouging the mating surface. The point end goes through bolt holes to line up a crossmember, a transmission mount, or a converter housing before you start a bolt.

Bars are alloy steel with machined and hardened chrome-vanadium tips, black finish. The 20 inch bar is rated to lift 1,400 lb, which covers holding a case up while you get a jack saddle under it or levering a unit forward off the dowel pins. The 6 inch bar is the one you keep reaching for in tight spots - popping a servo cover, prying a valve body free of the case, or moving a shift linkage bracket over.

A note on use: pry bars are for separating and aligning, not for hammering. If a case will not part after the bolts are out, look for a missed bolt or a dowel pin that has rusted in before you add more force. Using the rolling head against the case flange spreads the load and keeps you from putting a dent in a sealing surface the way a screwdriver will.
