Clutch Spring Compressor Tool T-0158-SP for Snapress

This is the T-0158-SP clutch spring compressing tool, the working arm that mounts to a Hagerty Snapress bench press. Steel construction, about 25 inches long and 7.5 pounds, and it replaces the original compressing tool on Snapress units built from 1951 through 2018.

The job it does is the one every rebuilder repeats a dozen times per unit: push the clutch piston return spring down far enough that the retaining snap ring clears its groove, hold it there, and get the ring out with a pick without the spring letting go. Done by hand or with a C-clamp the spring cocks sideways, the ring launches, and you are on the floor looking for it. Mounted on the press this arm loads the spring straight down the centerline and stays put, which leaves both hands free for the ring.

Because it works off the press rather than off the drum, it is not tied to one transmission family. Use it on GM, Ford and Chrysler clutch drums as long as the drum is the right diameter for the press adapters you already run. It is a replacement arm only, not a complete press, so you need a Snapress or compatible bench press to mount it to.
