Complete valve body assembly for the Aisin TF-80SC six-speed, curing the worn bores and sticking valves behind harsh, delayed or missing shifts.
This is a complete valve body assembly for the Aisin TF-80SC six-speed transverse automatic, the unit that also carries the AF40 and AWF21 part numbers depending on who put it in the car. It went into a lot of front-drive European and Japanese platforms from 2005 up - Volvo, Saab, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat and Renault among them - which is why one core valve body design covers a surprisingly wide fitment list. It ships as an assembly, so the separator plate, valves and springs come already in the casting rather than as loose pieces you have to stage yourself.
The reason these get replaced instead of cleaned: the TF-80SC wears its aluminum valve bores, particularly around the pressure control and shift valves, and once a bore is oval the valve no longer seals against it. Line pressure bleeds off, and the car shows up with the complaints these units are known for - a hard or banging 1-2 shift, a long delay dropping into drive or reverse when cold, converter clutch shudder at light throttle, and eventually a limp-in with pressure or ratio codes stored. Sticking solenoids on the same body produce the same symptom set, so when a unit has both, swapping the whole assembly is faster and more predictable than chasing individual bores with oversized valve kits.
On the bench, drop the pan and filter, drain the case, and pull the old body straight down without levering on the casting - the mating face is soft and a pried edge will leak. Note where the harness and manual valve link land before anything comes out, because the manual valve has to seat on the detent pin cleanly on the way back in or the unit will not select gears correctly. Torque the valve body bolts evenly in a spiral rather than around the perimeter, fit a new filter and pan gasket, and fill with the correct Aisin-spec fluid for the application. Relearn the adaptives after the fill - a fresh body with old adaptive values often feels worse than the part it replaced until it retrains.
Confirm what you actually have before ordering. TF-80SC, AF40 and AWF21 are the same family but the casting and solenoid layout changed across the run, so match the numbers on your old body and the vehicle application rather than going by model year alone.
