TF-80SC Transmission Shift Solenoid Kit 8-Piece

This is the full eight-piece solenoid set for the Aisin TF-80SC six-speed automatic transaxle, also sold under the AF40-6 designation and shared, valve body and all, with the TF-81SC / AF21 / AW6A-EL family. Manufacturer part reference is TF80-SC. The listed vehicle coverage is 2005-2016 Citroen, Peugeot, Saab, Fiat and Renault applications running the AM6 / TF-80SC unit, and the same solenoid layout carries over to the Volvo, Ford and Mazda versions of this gearbox.

The kit covers the linear pressure control solenoids, the shift solenoids and the lockup solenoid that bolt to the upper valve body. On this transaxle the solenoids are the first thing to go long before the clutches are worn out. A sticking linear solenoid shows up as a flare between gears, a hard bang on the 2-3 or 3-4, a delayed engagement into drive when the unit is cold, or a straight drop into limp home where you only get one forward gear. Scan data usually points at one specific solenoid circuit, but the rest of the set has the same miles and the same varnish on it, so replacing them one at a time turns into three jobs instead of one.

On the bench: drop the pan and filter, unbolt and pull the valve body, then unclip the solenoid harness connectors and pull each solenoid out of its bore. Note orientation and bore position before anything comes off, because the linear solenoids are not interchangeable between positions on this valve body. Clean the valve body and the solenoid bores before you install, seat the new solenoids fully with the O-rings lubricated in clean ATF, and torque the valve body bolts down in a criss-cross pattern to spec. On most applications this is done with the transaxle still in the vehicle. Reset the adaptives before the test drive so the TCM relearns shift pressures against the new solenoid response.

Kit ships as eight solenoids, 2.53 lb packaged. Verify your unit is a TF-80SC / TF-81SC family transaxle and compare the solenoid connector style to the photos before ordering, as this gearbox went through more than one solenoid revision across its production run.
