Underhoist Support Stand 1,500 lb, 54-82 in Height

An underhoist support stand is what keeps a transmission, transfer case, or exhaust section from dropping on your head once the crossmember is out. This one carries 1,500 lb and adjusts from 54 in. to 82 in., so it reaches from a low creeper-height car up to a full two-post lift with the vehicle at working height.

Height is set with a bearing-mounted spin handle turning a self-locking acme threaded screw. The bearing means you can crank it up under load without fighting the thread, and the acme screw holds where you leave it instead of creeping down. The contoured saddle cradles a round case or a pipe, and the 12 in. base spreads the load so the stand does not walk on a sloped shop floor.

Typical bench-side use: get the trans on a jack, unbolt the crossmember, then run this stand up under the tail housing or the bellhousing side to take the weight while you break loose the bell bolts and pull the torque converter bolts through the inspection cover. It is also the tool you want when you are holding an engine or transaxle up to swap a mount, or supporting a long exhaust while you cut and clamp a section in.
