Dana 30/60/70 Carrier & Pinion Bearing Puller, 3 Clamshells

This is a clamshell-style bearing puller for differential work. It grips behind the bearing cone with a split shell instead of a knife-edge jaw, so the load is spread around the whole race rather than concentrated on two points. That is what keeps you from chewing up the pinion sealing surface or the carrier hub when a bearing is stuck.

Fitment covers Dana 30, Dana 40, Dana 50, Dana 60, Dana 70 and Dana 80 carrier and pinion bearings, plus the Ford 10.25 inch rear. Three clamshells ship with the kit along with the main puller body, plug, center bolt, retaining ring, adjuster rings, and a stand that holds the assembly upright while you set it up.

Setup on the bench: drop the main body over the plug, set the lower and upper adjusting rings for the bearing height, pick the clamshell that matches the bearing you are pulling, and snug the retaining ring so the shell stays captured. From there a 1/2 inch impact on the center bolt walks the bearing off. Because the shell carries the load, you can reuse a good bearing instead of destroying it on the way off, which matters when you are only in the housing to reshim a ring and pinion.

The body and shells are 45 grade steel. Overall unit is 8.9 x 5 x 11 inches and weighs about 32 pounds, so it stays put on the bench under impact.
