Three-piece compressor set that holds the clutch pack springs on Ford 10R80 and GM 10L80 drums so you can pull the snap ring square.
Rebuilding a 10R80 means taking apart six clutch packs, and every one of them wants to launch its snap ring at you. This three-piece set clamps across the piston face and holds the return spring load flat while you work the ring out of its groove. The plates spread the load over the full piston instead of pinching it at two points the way a shop-made C-clamp setup does, which is what bends pistons and splits the bonded seal lip.
The kit covers Ford 10R80 and the GM 10L80 that shares the same architecture. Common applications are F-150 2017-2023, Expedition and Mustang 2018-2021, Ranger 2019-2021, and Explorer 2020-2021. You will use it on the clutch drums during teardown and again on reassembly to get the snap ring seated fully in the groove before you check clearance.
Bench sequence is straightforward: set the drum on the bench, drop the compressor plate over the piston, run the center screw down until the spring retainer clears the ring groove, pick the snap ring out with a pick or ring pliers, then back the screw off slowly. Going slow on the release is the part most people rush. On reassembly, compress, seat the ring, release, then confirm the ring is fully home all the way around before you measure clutch clearance.
