The factory pan on a Dodge 46RE, 47RE, or 48RE has no drain plug, so a proper fluid and filter service means dropping the whole pan and wearing most of the ATF. This kit swaps that headache out for a stamped-steel replacement pan with a threaded drain plug, and it comes with the pan gasket and the transmission filter, so you have everything to service the trans in one box and set yourself up for clean drain-and-fills after that.
It fits the 46RE, 47RE, and 48RE four-speed automatics behind the 4.7L, 5.2L, 5.9L, 6.7L, 8.0L, and 8.3L engines: Ram 1500 1998-2006, Ram 2500 1998-2009, Ram 3500 1998-2008, the 1500/2500/3500 vans, plus Dakota and Durango 1998-2003. It replaces OEM and common service numbers 52118789, 52118780, 265-827, and 2464324, so it bolts up and seals to the case like the stock pan.
On the bench: drop the old pan, cut the new filter onto the valve body until it seats, set the gasket dry (many techs skip RTV on these), hang the pan and run the bolts to spec in a cross pattern, then fill and check level hot. The drain plug earns its keep at the next service and on any truck that tows, where you want to change fluid more often than the pan-drop interval.
