Full overhaul kit for the Ford 4R70W, 4R75W and 4R75E four-speed: frictions, steels, seals, gaskets and thrust washers for 1998-2003 F-150 and Expedition.
Master overhaul kit for the Ford 4R70W, 4R75W and 4R75E four-speed automatic - the rear-wheel-drive box behind the 4.6L and 5.4L modular V8s. It covers the parts you replace on a full teardown: frictions, steels, the complete gasket and seal set, rubber lip seals, sealing rings, thrust washers and the pan gasket. Listed fitment is 1998-2003 F-150, F-250, E-150, E-250 and E-350, 1998-2003 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, 1998-2001 Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer, 1998-2004 Mustang, 1998-2002 Thunderbird, and Lincoln Mark VIII.
The 4R70W usually comes apart for the same two reasons: a slipping forward or direct clutch pack that shows up as a flare on the 1-2 or 2-3, and hard-part damage from a worn pump or cooked fluid. Both jobs need the whole friction and steel stack replaced, not just a seal kit, because glazed steels will burn a new friction inside a few hundred miles. This kit gives you the soft parts and the clutch stack in one box so the case only comes apart once.
On the bench: strip the unit, air-check the drums, then measure each clutch pack clearance with a dial indicator as you stack the new frictions and steels - do not assume the kit's stack height matches what came out. Soak the frictions in Mercon V before assembly, replace the pump bushing and the case-to-pump gasket while it is open, and set forward-drum endplay before you bolt the pump down. The 4R75W and 4R75E share the same overhaul parts as the 4R70W, which is why one kit covers all three.
Confirm your transmission tag and OEM part number before ordering. The 4R70W was built across several updates and the wide-ratio and later 4R75 variants use different valve body calibrations even though the overhaul parts interchange.
