4T60E/4T65E Transmission Filter and Pan Gasket Kit 58837

This is the filter and pan gasket you drop in when you service a GM 4T60E or 4T65E front-wheel-drive transaxle. It replaces filter kit number 58837 and covers a huge run of GM front-drive cars: 2000-2011 Chevy Impala, 1995-2007 Monte Carlo, 1992-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1992-2005 Bonneville and Lesabre, 1991-2005 Park Avenue, 1993-2004 Regal, and the Buick Lucerne and Lacrosse, plus the 1999-2005 Volvo S80 that ran the same GM unit.

The filter picks up fluid off the bottom of the pan and keeps clutch material, metal, and varnish out of the pump and valve body. On these transaxles a plugged or collapsing filter shows up as delayed engagement, a shudder on the 1-2 shift, or slipping once the fluid heats up, so it goes in every time the pan comes down. The kit includes the pickup filter and the pan gasket.

The job is straightforward on the bench or on a lift: drop the pan, let it drain, pull the old filter straight down off the pump pickup, seat the new filter, clean the pan and sealing surface, and set the new gasket. A note from the field on these GM pans, the supplied rubber gasket is thin, so hold it in place with a light film of grease rather than sealant, and torque the pan bolts evenly. If your original steel-backed gasket is in good shape, GM considers it reusable. Refill with DEXRON-VI.
