5R110W Transmission Filter Kit for Ford 6.0L Super Duty

The 5R110W TorqShift is Ford's five-speed automatic behind the 6.0L Powerstroke (and the 5.4L and 6.8L gas engines) in 2003-2007 Super Duty trucks. Unlike most automatics, it runs two filters: the main sump filter down in the pan and a secondary spin-style fluid filter. This kit gives you both, plus the pan gasket and the O-ring, so a full service is one part number instead of three.

Fitment covers 2003-2007 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, 2004-2007 E-350 and E-450 Super Duty, 2003-2004 Excursion, and the 2004 E-150/E-250/E-350 Club Wagon. It replaces Ford part numbers FT-144, 3C3Z7A098AA, 3C3Z7B155BA, 8C3Z7A098C and 3C3P-7G186-AF. Cross-check the number stamped on your original filter before ordering, since the later 2008-up 5R110W uses a different sump filter.

On the bench the job is straightforward: drop the pan, pull the old sump filter (it pulls straight down out of the valve body), swap the secondary fluid filter, wipe the pan and magnet clean, then seat the new filters and O-ring and reinstall the pan with the gasket. Two things worth knowing on this unit -- the factory pan gasket is a reusable rubber-and-steel carrier, so some techs keep the original and use only the filters from a kit like this, and the TorqShift is fussy about fluid level, so set it warm at the checking temperature rather than cold.

A plugged filter on a 5R110W shows up as slow engagement, low line pressure, and lazy or harsh shifts, and it starves the pump on a unit that is expensive to rebuild. A filter and fluid service at the recommended interval is the cheapest insurance you can put on one of these transmissions.
