68RFE High Energy Friction Clutch Pack Rebuild Module

This is the complete high energy friction set for the Chrysler 68RFE, Raybestos part number RCP96-232. It covers every clutch pack in the unit in one box: underdrive, overdrive, 2C, 4C, low/reverse and reverse. If you are tearing down a 68RFE out of a 2007-up Ram 2500 or 3500 behind the 6.7L Cummins, this is the friction stack that goes back in.

The 68RFE is a six-speed evolution of the 545RFE and it lives behind a lot of torque. The packs that show up burnt on teardown are almost always the overdrive and the 2C, followed by the underdrive when the truck has been towing or tuned. Pulling a mixed bag of individual frictions from different suppliers is how you end up with inconsistent clutch pack clearance across the unit. Buying the module means every disc in the transmission comes from the same friction lining and the same production lot.

On the bench, soak the frictions in clean ATF+4 for at least fifteen minutes before you stack anything. Measure each pack after assembly with a dial indicator or feeler stack and shim to the spec in your rebuild manual - the clutch counts here match the OE stack, so if your clearance is out, the problem is a worn steel, a tired piston, or a snap ring in the wrong groove, not the friction thickness. Reuse the steels only if they are flat, unglazed, and free of heat spotting; a warped steel will cook a brand new friction in a few hundred miles.
