68RFE Underdrive Piston & Retainer Install Tool T-3250-KM

The underdrive section is where a lot of 68RFE rebuilds go wrong. The underdrive piston and the piston retainer both carry molded and bonded lip seals, and those seals have to slide past a sharp bore edge as the piston drops into the drum. Push them in bare-handed and the lip folds, rolls under, or nicks, and you do not find out until the unit is together, on the truck, and the underdrive clutch is slipping or burning. Then it comes back out. This tool set is what keeps that from happening.

This is the T-3250-KM style install kit, a three-piece set that walks the bonded and molded pistons and the retainer straight into their bores while it tucks and protects the lip seal all the way down. One tool aligns and seats the underdrive piston, the others handle the molded piston and the retainer, so each piece goes in square with the seal riding where it should instead of catching on the drum edge.

It is made for the Dodge/Cummins 68RFE, the six-speed automatic behind the 6.7L Cummins in Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks from 2007 up, and it works the same way techs use the Kent-Moore T-3250-KM on the bench. The set is high-grade PVC so it will not gall the aluminum drum. Note that the drum, retainer, and pistons themselves are not included; this is the install tooling only.
