6R140 Transmission Sealing Ring Expander and Resizer Tool

This is the sealing ring service set for the Ford 6R140 TorqShift, the six-speed automatic behind the 6.7L Power Stroke in F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks from 2011 up. It replaces the OE-style 6R140-SE tool. The expander opens a new Teflon ring just enough to walk it over the shaft or drum land without stretching it out of shape, and the matching resizer squeezes it back down to bore diameter before the part goes into the case.

Skipping this step is where a lot of 6R140 rebuilds go wrong. A ring installed by hand ends up oversize, and it gets pinched, rolled or shaved on the way into the bore. The result is a cross leak that shows up as a soft or slipping apply after the unit is already back in the truck, so the whole job comes back out. Expanding and resizing takes seconds per ring and removes that guesswork.

Bench use is straightforward: warm the ring slightly if it is stiff, slide it onto the expander cone and over the land, seat it in its groove, then run the shaft or drum into the resizer and let the ring relax to size before assembly. Check that each ring turns freely in its groove and sits flush with no step before you lower the part into the case.

Fits the Ford 6R140 only. It is not sized for the 6R80, 10R80 or 10R140 units, so confirm the transmission code stamped on your case before ordering.
