6R140 Transmission Input Assembly Installation Tool

This is a support and installation tool for the input assembly in the Ford 6R140 TorqShift six-speed. It does the same job as Ford special service tool T-307651 and fits 6R140 units from 2011 up, both the 6.2L gas trucks and the 6.7L Power Stroke. The tool is steel, weighs about 3.4 pounds, and ships as a single piece.

The 6R140 input assembly is the reason this tool exists. Stacked up with the drums and shaft it runs roughly 75 pounds, and it has to go into the case dead straight or the splines will not pick up. Doing that freehand means one hand under a heavy stack and the other trying to feel for engagement, which is how techs cock the assembly in the bore, gall the bushing, or nick the input shaft sealing rings on the way down. The tool takes the weight and holds the assembly on center so you can index it and lower it under control instead of wrestling it.

Typical use on the bench: stand the case up, set the tool to carry the input assembly, line up the splines with the shell below, then walk the assembly down and confirm it has dropped fully to its stop before you pull the tool. It is a repeat-use shop item rather than a one-job piece, so it belongs on the bench in any shop that sees Super Duty transmissions regularly.

Applications are the Ford 6R140 as fitted to F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty from 2011 up in gas and diesel form. Replaces T-307651.
