6T70 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit Gen 2 2013-Up

This is a master-level overhaul kit for the Generation 2 GM 6T70 and 6T75, the transverse six-speed automatic GM fitted from 2013 onward behind the 2.4L, 3.6L and V6 front-drive and all-wheel-drive platforms: Chevrolet Traverse, Impala, Malibu and Equinox, GMC Acadia and Terrain, Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX. It replaces kit reference K196900A and services units also labeled 6T70E and 6T75E.

Generation matters more on this unit than on most. GM revised the 6T70 family for 2013 - the clutch pack stack-ups, several of the sealing rings and the pump feed changed - and Gen 1 (roughly 2007-2012) soft parts will not interchange correctly with a Gen 2 case even when they physically drop in. Count your frictions and check the build date on the case tag before you open the box. If the transmission is a 2007-2012 unit, this is the wrong kit.

A master kit is the full soft-parts and clutch package for one overhaul: friction plates, steel plates, the gasket set, and the rubber, Teflon and O-ring sealing set. Hard parts - drums, planetaries, the pump, the sun shell and the valve body - are not included and are reused or sourced separately. Plan on replacing the filter and the case-connector seal at the same time.

The failures that send a Gen 2 6T70 to the bench are usually wear-driven: a slipping 3-5-R clutch that flares on the 2-3 and 5-4 changes, a burned 4-5-6 pack, harsh or delayed engagement from a hardened pump or drum seal, and shudder from a worn torque converter clutch. Once the frictions are cooked, the fluid carries the debris everywhere, which is why a master kit and a thorough cooler flush go together - a new clutch pack fed by a cooler full of old friction material will not last. Soak the new frictions in the correct DEXRON VI fluid before assembly, set clutch clearances with the kit's steels rather than assuming the old stack height, and check end play before you close the case.
