45RFE 545RFE 68RFE Billet Accumulator Piston Kit

This is a billet accumulator piston and support plate kit for the Chrysler RFE-family automatic transmissions: the 45RFE, 5-45RFE (545RFE), 65RFE, 66RFE and 68RFE. Those units sit behind Dodge, Jeep and Ram drivetrains from 1999 up, including the Grand Cherokee, Durango, Dakota, Ram 1500, and the 68RFE bolted to the 6.7L Cummins in the 2500 and 3500. The kit includes 5 billet accumulator pistons, 20 seals, the heavy-duty steel support plate and the hardware to install them.

The factory accumulator pistons are molded plastic, and they are one of the known weak spots in this transmission family. As they age the plastic wears at the seal grooves and the piston can crack, which bleeds off accumulator pressure. That shows up on the bench and on the road as soft or flaring shifts, a delayed engagement, and burnt clutches later on because the apply is no longer cushioned the way the calibration expects.

Machined from billet aluminum with a hard anodized finish, these pistons drop into the accumulator bores in place of the plastic originals and hold their seal under the heat and line pressure the stock parts give up on. The reinforced support plate spreads apply pressure evenly instead of letting the assembly flex, which keeps shift feel consistent when the truck is loaded or towing. Install it during a valve body service, a full rebuild, or any time the pan and valve body are already off to chase a pressure or shift-quality complaint.
