Spin-on style pickup filter and pan gasket for the Chrysler 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE and 68RFE, 4WD deep-pan units in 1999-up Ram, Durango and Grand Cherokee.
This is the filter and gasket service kit for the Chrysler multi-speed automatics: the 45RFE, the 545RFE (5-45RFE), and the later 65RFE, 66RFE and 68RFE. These share the same case family and the same drop-in filter, so one kit covers a big slice of Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler trucks and SUVs. It fits the 4WD deep-pan configuration on 2007-2009 Aspen, 2000-2011 Dakota, 2000-2016 Durango, 2011-2017 Ram 1500/2500/3500, 2002-2010 Ram 1500/2500/3500 pickups, 2006-2010 Commander, 2000-2010 Grand Cherokee, 2002-2007 Liberty, 2004 Wrangler and 2006-2008 Raider. It replaces OE 5013470-AA. Because these transmissions shipped in both 2WD shallow and 4WD deep pan depths, confirm your pan before ordering.
The filter is what keeps clutch debris and worn steel out of the pump and the solenoid pack. When it loads up you get the classic 45RFE/545RFE complaints: delayed engagement, a flare or bump on the 1-2 and 4-5 shifts, and low line pressure that shows up first when the fluid is hot. A clogged filter starves the pump right when the transmission is working hardest, so a plugged filter and burnt fluid usually go together.
On the bench the job is direct: drop the pan, pull the old filter straight down off the pump inlet, clean the pan and the magnet, seat the new filter seal fully into the pump bore, lay the gasket on a clean dry flange, and torque the pan bolts evenly in a cross pattern. On these units the solenoid pack sits right above the filter, so it is a good time to inspect it while the pan is off. Service the filter and fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles on a truck that tows, and any time you are chasing a shift complaint or a leak.
