A518 46RE 47RE Governor Pressure Solenoid & Sensor Kit 4617210

On the Chrysler A500/A518/A618 overdrive family - the units badged 42RE, 44RE, 46RE and 47RE - the governor pressure solenoid and the governor pressure sensor are what the transmission uses to control shift timing. They live in the valve body, bolted to the accumulator side, and they take a beating from heat and fluid pressure. When one goes bad you get the classic complaints: the truck starts off in second or third instead of first, it hunts between gears, shifts flare or bang, or it drops into limp mode and throws codes P0748 (solenoid) or P0846/P1762 (sensor). Because both parts fail from the same heat and mileage, replacing them as a pair is the accepted fix rather than chasing one at a time.

This kit fits 1996-1999 Dodge Dakota, 1998-1999 Dodge Durango, 1996-1999 Dodge Ram 1500/2500/3500 and 1996-1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The solenoid interchanges with part numbers 4617210 and 52118652; the sensor interchanges with 56041403AA and 56027720. The solenoid is a low-leakage design that holds pressure at higher line pressures, which matters on trucks that tow.

Both parts sit under the transmission oil pan, so this is a pan-down job: drop the pan, drain the fluid, unbolt the old sensor and solenoid from the valve body, transfer over the new units, then reinstall with a fresh filter and gasket and refill with ATF+4. Budget about two hours in the driveway and have fluid on hand before you start. Doing the sensor and solenoid together while the pan is off saves you tearing back in a month later.
