Lincoln Town Car 2003-2004 Shift Cable 3W1Z-7E395-AB

This shift control cable fits the 2003-2004 Lincoln Town Car with the 4R70W or 4R75E automatic. It replaces Ford 3W1Z-7E395-AB. The cable runs from the column shifter to the manual lever on the side of the transmission. It comes as a complete cable with both end fittings and weighs about 12 oz.

A worn or stretched cable causes these problems: the gear indicator does not match the gear the transmission is in, the car will not start in Park because the range sensor never sees Park, the shifter feels loose, or the car rolls in Park. A snapped cable leaves the lever moving freely with no change in gear.

Check the bushing first. On many Fords, the plastic bushing where the cable snaps onto the transmission lever dries out and falls apart, and the symptoms look like a bad cable. If the bushing is intact and the cable is kinked, frayed or seized in its housing, replace the cable. After installation, put the shifter and the transmission lever both in Park before you lock the adjuster, then check that every gear lines up with the indicator.
