TF-81SC Transmission Valve Body with Solenoids

This is a complete TF-81SC valve body assembly with the shift and pressure control solenoids already installed and wired to the internal connector. It replaces the original AF21B / AF40-TF81SC unit found in the transverse six-speed automatic that Aisin-Warner built for Ford, Mazda, Volvo, Lincoln and Land Rover from the mid-2000s on. OEM reference on the casting is TF81 / TF-81SC.

The TF-81SC fails in a pattern most builders know by heart. Worn bores around the solenoid regulator and pressure control circuits bleed line pressure, and the result is a harsh or flaring 2-3 shift, a shudder that shows up under light throttle around 40 mph as the converter clutch tries to apply, a delayed engagement into Drive when cold, or a limp-in with solenoid performance codes such as P0741, P0751, P0756 and P0776. Once the aluminum bores are worn, cleaning the old body and swapping solenoids does not hold. A replacement body with fresh solenoids restores the hydraulic circuits in one part.

Installation is from underneath with the pan and filter off. Drop the pan, pull the filter, unplug the internal harness at the valve body, then back out the body bolts in a spiral from the outside in so the separator plate does not warp as it releases. Note the length and location of every bolt going out - they are not all the same on this unit. Transfer the manual valve link to the new body, set the body up to the case squarely so the manual valve engages the detent lever, and torque the bolts in the reverse pattern, working from the center out. Plug the harness back in, fit a new filter and pan gasket, and refill through the fill plug with the fluid the platform calls for. Ford and Mazda applications take Mercon LV; Volvo applications take the Volvo/JWS 3309 spec fluid. Level is set by the fill plug with the fluid at temperature, not by a dipstick.

Fits Ford Fusion six-speed 2006-2008, Mazda 6 2005-2012, Mazda CX-7 and CX-9 2007-2009, Mazda MPV six-speed 2006-2016, Mercury Milan 2006-2008, Mercury Montego 2005-2007, Lincoln MKZ 2006-2008, Lincoln MKX 2006-2008, Lincoln Zephyr 2006-2008, Volvo S60, V60, V70, XC60, XC70 and XC90, Land Rover Freelander 2006-2014, and the Peugeot 407 and Vauxhall Insignia versions of the same AF40 case. Verify the casting and connector against your old unit before you order - the TF-80SC and TF-81SC bodies look similar but are not interchangeable.
