Reprograms the TorqueFlite valve body so a Chrysler A727 or A904 shifts short and firm instead of dragging the clutches through every change.
TransGo builds the TF-2 for the Chrysler TorqueFlite three-speed family, so it drops into the A727 (TorqueFlite 8) and the smaller A904, A998 and A999 (TorqueFlite 6) cases. It is a valve body reprogramming kit, not a parts-replacement kit: you use it to change how the transmission shifts rather than to put the same soft factory calibration back in.
A stock TorqueFlite shifts slow and long because the factory calibration bleeds pressure off during the change to keep it soft. That is fine behind a low-output engine and hard on the clutches behind anything else. Every second the direct drum and front band are slipping through a 1-2 or 2-3 is heat going into the friction material, and it is why a rebuilt 727 put back together stock will glaze its clutches again behind a healthy engine, a converter, or a towed load.
On the bench the kit goes in with the valve body off the case and split. You swap the supplied valves, springs, spacers and shims into the shift and pressure circuits, install the separator plate and gaskets that come in the box, then bolt the body back to the case with the new pan gasket and filter that ship with the kit. TransGo prints a step sheet with the drill sizes and which passages to leave alone; work it in order and it is a bench job, not a machine-shop job. Line pressure comes up and the shift is short and firm instead of dragged out.
Made in the USA. Part number TGOTF-2, sold under the TransGo Gear Command line. Verify your case is a non-lockup TorqueFlite three-speed before ordering - this kit is not for the later A500/A518 overdrive units.
