Chrysler 727 Lokar Hi-Tech Kickdown Cable Kit KD-2727HT

The Lokar KD-2727HT is a cable-operated kickdown for the Chrysler A727 three-speed TorqueFlite. It takes the place of the factory rod-and-bellcrank kickdown linkage, which usually will not clear a tall aftermarket intake, a blower manifold, or an engine sitting in a different chassis than the one the linkage was designed for. The cable runs from the carburetor or throttle body linkage directly to the kickdown lever on the side of the case.

The housing is braided over a purpose-extruded liner rather than brake hose, so the inner cable keeps sliding freely through years of underhood heat, and the aluminum end fittings use a ferrule so the cable does not fray where it clamps.

Why it matters on a 727: the kickdown lever works the throttle valve, so it controls throttle pressure, shift timing, and shift firmness, not just the forced downshift. A linkage that is disconnected or adjusted short makes the 727 shift early and soft, and repeated soft shifts under load glaze and burn the front and rear clutches. Set the cable so the lever reaches its full-throttle stop at wide open throttle with no preload at idle, then road test for crisp upshifts and a clean part-throttle kickdown.
