About this product

Remanufactured-style replacement valve body for the Toyota U660E six-speed front-wheel-drive automatic, sold with the solenoid pack in place. It carries the P47740 casting and drops into U660E and U660F units built from 2006 through 2011: Camry 3.5L, Venza, Highlander, RAV4 V6, Estima and Alphard, plus the Lexus ES350 and RX350. Six ports, threaded inlet, NPT outlet, all-metal construction.

The U660E fails in a pattern. Solenoid bore wear and a stuck accumulator let line pressure drop off, and the car shows up with a hard 1-2 bang, a long 2-3 flare, shudder on the torque converter clutch apply, or a no-upshift limp-in with P0700, P2716, P0748 or P0778 stored. If a fluid and filter service and a solenoid resistance check do not clear it, the valve body is the part that gets replaced - the bores wear oval and no amount of cleaning restores them.

Bench work is straightforward on this unit. Drop the pan, pull the filter, disconnect the internal harness connectors and the transmission wire harness at the case pass-through, then walk the valve body bolts out in a crossing pattern and lower it straight down so the separator plate and check balls stay put. Note where each length of bolt came from - they are not all the same. On reassembly torque the valve body bolts evenly to spec, reconnect the solenoid harness, install a new filter and pan gasket, then refill through the fill plug and set the level with the fluid at the correct temperature window. This transmission is checked by temperature, not by a dipstick, so a scan tool that reads ATF temperature is required to finish the job.

Reset the transmission adaptive memory after installation and drive the car through several light-throttle upshifts and downshifts so the TCM relearns clutch apply timing. Skipping the relearn is the usual reason a good valve body still shifts rough for the first fifty miles.
