GM 7.5 Differential Master Overhaul Kit (ZK GM7.5)

This is the USA Standard Gear master overhaul kit, part number ZK GM7.5, for setting up the GM 7.5-inch and 7.625-inch 10-bolt rear differential. This is the small GM 10-bolt that lives under a huge range of 1982-1999 rear-drive GM vehicles: S-10, S-15, Blazer and Jimmy, the G-body Regal, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, Malibu and El Camino, third-gen and fourth-gen Camaro and Firebird, and the lighter C/K and Astro/Safari applications. The 7.625-inch version uses the same housing with a slightly larger ring gear and shows up mostly on the later Camaro, Firebird and Bravada. This one kit covers both.

It is a master (install) kit, which matters: along with the Koyo carrier bearings and races and the pinion bearings and races, you get the complete shim pack needed to set pinion depth and dial in carrier bearing preload and backlash from scratch. Also in the box are a new pinion seal, the ring gear bolts, the pinion nut, the crush sleeve, thread locker, and a tube of gear-marking compound with a brush, plus the differential cover gasket. That is every wear part that touches the gears, so you are not reusing tired bearings on a fresh gear set or a fresh carrier.

Reach for this kit when you install a new ring and pinion, drop in a limited-slip or a lunchbox locker, or tear the rear down to chase a howl, a whine on decel, or a spun bearing. Set it up right: shim the pinion to the depth marked on the gear, run backlash in the 0.008 to 0.010 inch range, load the carrier bearings to spec, then paint the ring gear and read your pattern before the cover goes back on. Note the kit does not include the ring and pinion gears, a carrier, or the outer axle wheel bearings; pair it with your gear set and reuse good gears if the pattern checks out.
